Pinkamena Diane Pie

Pinkamena Diane Pie. Honestly, I probably have just as much in common with Pinkamena as I do with Fluttershy.


Now there are many head-canons and theories about Pinkamena, so here’s one theory that I have. (This isn’t really my head-canon, it’s just a theory)

Pinkamena is actually like some sorta split personality type deal.

Okay, so let me elaborate on this. So there’s this whole thing about Pinkamena being a psycho killer, mainly thanks to Cupcakes, even though it was actually just normal Pinkie the whole time. I don’t see Pinkamena as a killer, I see her as somethin’ like a protector. Now who could she be protecting? Pinkie, of course!

Pinkie is shown to be a very optimistic and usually care-free mare. She always sees the bright side of things, and just generally has a happy outlook on life. But there are times when she hasn’t seen the bright side and her usual cheery demeanour falters. These situations are usually things that Pinkie has found to be too unfamiliar and overwhelming, E.g. “Party of One”, She’s so use to having her friends want to be around her and just want to have fun with her, then all of a sudden all her friends are avoiding her and she’s left on her own.

This is where Pinkamena comes in, ya’ see I think Pinkamena acts as a sorta mental protection against these situations, like a bullet proof vest acting against the negativity in the world. In order to protect Pinkie’s optimistic nature, Pinkamena takes over and absorbs that negativity so that Pinkie can avoid most of the hurt. Pinkamena’s main personality being much more dark and twisted, means that she already sees the whole world in a negative light and her hallucinations are kind of like her own escape, making up new friends that she can talk to and have fun with.

Even though Pinkamena takes control, Pinkie still has some sorta awareness and understanding of what’s happening around her and thus can learn from Pinkamena’s experiences, without getting hurt in the process. When there’s no need for Pinkamena’s protection, Pinkie takes control again and she just starts acting like her normal self.

In a situation, like “Too Many Pinkie Pies” Pinkamena didn’t take over because Pinkie didn’t need her protection. It was a situation that Pinkie herself needed to face to have a better understanding of what friendship is and what it means to spend time with her friends. If Pinkamena had taken over, she would have just spent the entire episode not caring what happened to rest of Ponyville, she would just let the Pinkies take over.


Anyway, as I said before, this is just a theory I have.
